 Patient/Visitor Services Information Guide
PLEASE NOTE THAT BALDWIN AREA MEDICAL CENTER IS A TOBACCO FREE CAMPUS. BAMC RESTRICTS SMOKING AND TOBACCO USE IN THE BUILDING AND ON ALL SURROUNDING PROPERTY OWNED BY BALDWIN AREA MEDICAL CENTER, INCLUDING PARKING LOT AREAS.
WELCOME TO THE BALDWIN AREA MEDICAL CENTER!
This information will assist you in becoming familiar with the services our facility has to offer. ACUTE CARE
Baldwin Area Medical Center has 25 acute care beds for general illness and injury. Of these beds, three are designated Intensive Care, which are used for the critically ill. The Intensive Care Beds are located in the Hemness Special Care Unit, made possible by a generous donation from the Hemness estate. Negative airflow rooms are available for people who may have a contagious, airborne disease.
SWING BED OR SUBACUTE CARE
Baldwin Area Medical Center is a certified swing bed facility. If you are no longer acutely ill, but still not well enough to go home and take care of yourself, you may be placed into swing bed for short time. You receive the same type of care in swing bed as you would in a nursing home. For more information on swing bed, talk to the discharge planner.
FAMILY PRACTICE CLINIC
Family Medicine services are provided by Baldwin Medical Group, who contract their services to Baldwin Area Medical Center. Five doctors and two physician assistants are able to provide for all your family’s medical needs from childbirth to geriatric care.

SATURDAY CLINIC
Our Saturday Clinic is held every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This clinic is for regular medical problems that you want checked, but are not severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room. The clinic is staffed by the providers of the Baldwin Area Medical Center.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
The Emergency Department at Baldwin Area Medical Center is equipped with three modern emergency rooms designed to handle any situation, from minor to severe. Our emergency room provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether the medical emergency need is cardiac, trauma or OB services, our ER team is thoroughly trained in emergency medicine.
CHEST PAIN EVALUATION
Baldwin Area Medical Center provides a service that is unique to our area - the Chest Pain Evaluation and Treatment Unit. We offer:
24-hour monitoring
Data and laboratory test information to determine if chest pain is the result of a heart attack
Marquette ST Segment Cardiac Monitors to evaluate chest pain
OB SERVICES
Expectant parents find state-of-the-art care in Baldwin Area Medical Center's "Life Begins Birth Center." Private suites allow families to stay together and share the entire birthing experience.
We provide:
Private birthing rooms
Sofa beds and rocking chairs
Spacious bathrooms with whirlpool baths
Four new labor and recovery rooms
Personalized Birth Plan
Our OB staff received the Special Delivery Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics for having the entire departmental staff trained in neonatal resuscitation skills. We also have an on-staff specialist certified in clinical breast-feeding assistance.

CHEMOTHERAPY SERVICES
Chemotherapy is provided on an outpatient basis. Our Chemotherapy program is designed specifically around patient needs. Our goal is to keep them fully informed, provide continuous support and offer the best care possible. A visiting Oncologist, CAT scans and bone scans are all available as needed. Our Chemotherapy Department also provides IV Therapy and Blood Transfusions.
RADIOLOGY SERVICES
Our expanded Radiology Department features two radiology procedure rooms, PET/CT Scanner, a CT Scan room, a mammography service, in-house ultrasound equipment and an MRI Dock.

REHABILITATION SERVICES
We strive to provide well-balanced forms of rehabilitation, and to continue to educate our community in how to prevent injury and maintain optimum health. Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy Departments work in conjunction with the HealthSmart Programs offered at Baldwin Area Medical Center. They also utilize the Fitness Center and the heated Therapeutic Pool for exercise programs.
CARDIOPULMONARY REHAB
Education is an important aspect of getting well. The programs offered by this department's staff are aimed at better patient understanding and at future prevention of serious cardiac and/or respiratory illness. Our Pulmonary Rehab program is designed for those individuals with chronic lung disease such as bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, or asthma.

Baldwin Area Medical Center has a very active Outpatient Department, with over 20 visiting specialists seeing patients in the facility. Combined with this, numerous diagnostic services are available on a regular basis to assist with diagnosis and treatment. Same day surgery is performed for a number of conditions.

ECHOCARDIOGRAM & STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAMS

MRI SCANNING
A scan of the body which shows soft tissue as well as bone: Shared Medical, Madison, WI.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Radioactive scans of the body: CMI, Eau Claire, WI.
DIABETES SERVICES
Our certified Diabetic Educator and nutritionist work closely with our diabetic and “pre” diabetic population, emphasizing self-management of the disease. One-on-one interactions, diabetes classes and a diabetes support group provide the patient with information and techniques to help manage their disease and minimize complications.
ANTICOAGULATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES
The Anticoagulation Management Service (AMS) is a pharmacist and nurse managed, physician directed service dedicated to providing coordinated, comprehensive and high quality management of patients who are on anticoagulation therapy (Coumadin and Warfarin). The service provides intensive patient teaching and monitoring of anticoagulation therapy to maximize benefits while minimizing complications.
PHARMACY
Our pharmacy is in-house, providing medication and services to our in-patient population. Pharmacy also plays an important part in our AMS (Anti-Coagulation Management Service) Clinic.
LABORATORY

On-site laboratory performs daily tests that allow our medical staff to quickly diagnose patient illness and detect early warning signs of disease. Blood banking and therapeutic drug monitoring are also performed by the lab.
SOCIAL SERVICES
Our Social Services Department works closely with patients and our community to address psychosocial issues, financial problems, domestic abuse resources, mental health concerns, and alcohol and drug problems.
